How to Make an Origami Butterfly

USD $0.99 Download | RobH0629 | June 11, 2009 In this tutorial, I explain how to make an origami butterfly out of a sheet of printer paper. We must first make the paper square, and then go on to make what is known as the "Water Bomb Base" or "Paper Balloon Base".

After that, we will go on to make the wings and head of the butterfly, finally folding it into the final shape.

This tutorial should be regarded as fairly simple and is gone over in detail. Hope you enjoy, and please comment, rate, and subscribe to my videos! Thanks :-)

What happened to the modular origami polyhedra!?? It has been a while ... but .... as I need to enable you all to make sufficient of these to decorate a Christmas Tree ; ) here is a QUITE EASY one, the Spike Ball or Spiky Cuboctahedron. If you can fold the classic origami pinwheel this one should not give you any problems at all. You can make it in various sizes the smallest is shown, but check out this site http://www.spikeballheaven.net/ which shows the various options (Spike Balls, Super Spike Balls, and Super Duper Spike Balls) as well as the diagram for the modules.

How to Make an Origami Flapping Bird

USD $0.99 Download | RobH0629 | October 10, 2009 In this tutorial, I will teach you how to make an Origami Flapping Bird (really flaps!) using a regular sheet of printer paper. If you have any origami or square paper, that would be ideal to use.

Making the Origami Flapping Bird is very similar to making the Origami Crane, yet with fewer folds. We must know how to make the Origami Bird Base, from which we can then make the flapping bird. I teach how to make the Bird Base step by step in this tutorial, but if you already know how to make it, you may fast forward to around 5:30.

If you already know how to make the Bird Base, you may fast forward to around 5:30 to learn how to convert the bird base into a flapping bird. To make the bird flap, you hold the neck and pull on the tail.

As always, please comment, rate and subscribe for notification of my future videos. Post any questions in the comment section and also let me know what else you would like to learn. Thanks for watching!

How To Make an Origami Inflatable Bunny

Expand the description and view the text of the steps for this how-to video.

Check out Howcast for other do-it-yourself videos from OrigamiUSA and more videos in the Origami category.

You can contribute too! Create your own DIY guide at http://www.howcast.com/videos/new or produce your own Howcast spots with the Howcast Filmmakers Program at http://www.howcast.com/filmmakers/apply.

Save some energy for the end of this process—you'll need it to puff the breath of life into your adorable little bunny.

To complete this How-To you will need:

A sheet of square origami paper (6" x 6" / 15 cm x 15 cm)
A flat surface

Step 1: Fold the edges to the opposite sides and unfold

With the colored side up, fold one edge to the opposite edge, then unfold. Rotate the paper and do the same with the other two edges.

Step 2: Flip the paper over and fold corner to opposite

Turn the paper over to the white side and fold one corner to the opposite corner. Unfold.

Step 3: Rotate the paper and repeat

Rotate the paper and repeat with the other two corners. Do not unfold.

Step 4: Collapse into an upside-down pyramid

You should have an overall triangular shape with creases that form a "V" on either side of the center vertical crease. Pick up the model and hold it with your fingers on either side of the "V." Gently bring your hands together allowing the paper to collapse into an upside-down pyramid shape.

Step 5: Place on table

Place the model back down on the table and arrange it so that there are two flaps on each side and the closed point is at the top.

Step 6: Fold bottom corners up

Working only on the front flaps, fold the bottom right and bottom left corners up to the top point.

Step 7: Fold one top corner to create landmark crease

To mark the center of the model, fold ONE of the top corners to the bottom and then crease, creating a landmark for the next step, and unfold.

Step 8: Fold corners to meet at landmark crease

On the top layer, you should now have a diamond shape. Fold the right and left corners of the diamond to meet in the middle at the landmark.

Tip: You should now have two little triangles, the top edge of which has two layers. These form pockets that will be used later to lock the model.

Step 9: Fold top corners to cover pockets

Keeping the pockets in place, fold the two top corners down and out to the side, covering the pockets.

Step 10: Fold outer corners to center

Fold these outer corners to the center to meet. You should now have two tiny triangles covering the pockets.

Step 11: Tuck triangles into pockets

Gently tuck these triangles INTO the pockets, forming a lock. The top layer of your model should now be a lozenge-shaped hexagon.

Step 12: Flip model over

Turn the model over to the plain pyramid shape.

Step 13: Fold long sides to center

Fold down each of the long sloping sides to align on the center vertical crease.

Step 14: Form upside-down triangle

Pivoting on the lower right corner, grasp the bottom right flap and fold it over to the right. You will form an upside-down triangle with a top edge parallel to the bottom of the model.

Tip: You may need to adjust the fold using the pivot before creasing into place.

Step 15: Repeat on left side

Repeat on the left side. You should now have an overall boat shape with a large sail.

Step 16: Fold bottom right edge to center

Pivoting at the bottom of the center vertical crease, fold the bottom right edge of the boat to lie on the center vertical. Repeat on the left side.

Step 17: Arrange four flaps into "+" sign

Keeping these flaps in place, pick up the model and look at it from the bottom—arrange the four flaps of the model into a "+" sign.

Step 18: Puff into small hole

There's a small hole in the center of the plus sign (+). Give a strong short puff into the hole to bring your bunny to life!

How to Make an Origami Boomerang

In this latest addition to my origami series, I will show you how to make a paper boomerang that really comes back!! To check out my throws, go to 1:02 (click here) in the video.

In this tutorial, I will explain how to turn a regular sheet of printer paper into an origami boomerang... well actually 2 origami boomerangs!! :-) You will need a simple Printer sheet (8.5 x 11 inches). Please note, I say A4 in the video, but that is slightly different than letter paper. I believe both A4 and letter paper should work. No tape or anything else is required.

I also explain at the end the way we must position the boomerang in order to throw it properly. This will keep you busy for hours and is fun for all ages. Once you show off your boomerang to friends, they are definitely going to want one! Please refer them to this video if you enjoy! :-)

Hope that everyone had a great break and got to spend time with the family :-) It has been a great year!

Thanks for watching and don't forget to comment, rate, and subscribe to my videos. Thanks!

Octogones for October contest winners announced!

1Er January 2009.

Group on Flickr origami tessellations created a contest for the month of October, by asking people to create works octagonal-theme to celebrate our friend eight-sided solitaire and all its creative possibilities.

My deepest apologies to all of your for the delay in the selection and the award winners of this contest - sometimes life has a way to become very busy and sudden two months have gone by in a blink of eye. As penance for two months at the end of my judging, I added a few additional prize in this contest: three participants will receive a Flickr pro membership year!

I thank everyone to participate and contribute to these beautiful illustrations - as many varieties and folding methods, I was really surprised to see the diversity of ideas to play in all of your creations! I think that everyone, who has created something here and share it with the world is winning, and you should all be proud of the artwork you created.

So without further ADO, here are three persons who submitted artwork that I thought were the most compelling:

Andrew Hudson (origami_madness) - Andrew absolutely charriait me further by creating a new part of octagonal art for every single day in October!I never imagined in my wildest that someone would take the contest at this level of creative energy dreams. With the Flickr Pro account I will be also be postal Andrew a special copy of my book with a selection of books from my own collection of studio.Je paper origami tessellations am totally amazed by what he did! There are so many favorites here, and some really surprising new ideas, that there are shared... but here is my three favorite:

Octagons for October #1: Coral Polyps

Octagons for October #6: Water Lily

Octagons for October #21: Columns (5)

Endre Somos (soma0213) - Endre makes a delicious floral octagonal ground that reminded me greatly of illustrations of the grammar of ornament, my most beloved book architectural elements and design .the ' use of visually complex floral design elements with an empty space related structurally enhances the beauty of this illustration.Je am quite fond of this model!

Octagons for October: Octagon Flowers

Octagons for October: Octagon Flowers - back

Carlos Natan López Nazario (Origami Natan) - Natan creates these structures phenomenal tessellation 3-d, which have long fascinated me; but it has really captured my interest with his model "8 Cubes Star", which is my preferred model 3D version of star octagonal absolue.Il also has a larger model from an earlier version, conception "8 Points Star", which is equally delicious.
